Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, on Tuesday paid his last respects to late former President Muhammadu Buhari at the Daura residence in Katsina State, joining a host of dignitaries and sympathisers ahead of the burial scheduled for later in the day.
Amaechi, who holds the traditional title of Dan Amanar Daura — meaning “Trusted Son of Daura” — appeared in full ceremonial attire, symbolizing his deep respect for the late elder statesman and the cultural significance of the moment.
He was conferred the honorary title by the Daura Emirate in 2022 in recognition of his loyalty and contributions to the region and Nigeria at large.
Also present was former Borno State Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, who joined Buhari’s family members and mourners as they awaited the arrival of the former president’s body from London.
Buhari, who passed away at the age of 82 in a London hospital, is set to be buried later today in his hometown of Daura according to Islamic rites.
His passing has drawn widespread mourning across Nigeria and beyond, with tributes pouring in from political leaders, traditional rulers, and citizens reflecting on his legacy and service to the nation.
Security has been heightened around the Daura Emir’s palace and the residence of the late president, as state officials, traditional leaders, and political figures continue to converge to honor one of Nigeria’s most prominent post-independence leaders.
