The District Head of Garki Shakwope in Garki Chiefdom, TPL Chief, Ambassador Stephen Shekwonce Yakubu, has marked a significant milestone as he celebrated his 50th birthday alongside the five-year remembrance of his late father, Chief Jacob Shizawobwayi Garki (JP).
The event, which drew dignitaries from various walks of life, was not only a moment of personal reflection but also an opportunity for the traditional ruler to call for unity among Nigerians.
Speaking with journalists during the celebration, Ambassador Yakubu expressed deep gratitude to God for His guidance and protection throughout his life. He described his golden jubilee as a turning point marked by restoration and renewed purpose.
“Fifty years is a season of restoration. I am dedicating the next phase of my life to God and trusting Him for greater blessings,” he said.
Reflecting on his father’s passing, which coincided with his birthday, Yakubu noted that what once seemed like a painful loss has revealed itself as a divine transition of leadership and responsibility.
“My father died on my birthday. At the time, I did not understand it, but now I see it as a transition of power and authority to me,” he added.
The Hakimi of Garki reaffirmed his commitment to leadership, emphasizing an open-door policy and a strong focus on community development. He also appreciated the continuous support from his family, friends, and the entire community.
“I will continue to work for the development of our district and ensure that leadership remains accessible to all. I deeply appreciate the support I have received,” he stated.
In her remarks, his wife, Chief Mrs Stella Yakubu, expressed heartfelt gratitude to guests for celebrating with the family. She described her husband as a rare gem and a source of pride.
“Standing by him is a blessing from God. He is a rare gem, and I am proud to be his wife and to share in this journey with him,” she said.
The event served as both a celebration of life and a solemn remembrance, blending joy with reflection.
It also reinforced Ambassador Yakubu’s message of unity, urging Nigerians to embrace togetherness for national growth and progress.
