The Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs, Yusuf Tanko Sununu, has officially resigned from the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Sununu stepped down from his position on Monday as he prepares to contest for a Senate seat in Kebbi State. His resignation is in compliance with Nigeria’s regulations requiring public office holders to relinquish their positions before seeking elective office.

Confirming the development in a response to Vanguard, the former minister stated that his decision aligns with established political guidelines. When contacted via text message, he affirmed that he had indeed resigned.

Before his appointment to the Federal Executive Council, Sununu represented the Yauri/Shanga/Ngaski Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. He also previously served as Minister of State for Education before being reassigned to the Humanitarian Affairs Ministry.

During his time in office, Sununu was associated with several social intervention initiatives, which were said to have positively impacted communities, particularly in Kebbi State.
