Former Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Political Matters, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has said Nigeria is currently facing deeper challenges than when the administration took office in 2023.

Speaking on Tuesday during an interview on Trust TV, Baba-Ahmed maintained that the situation across the country—ranging from the economy to security—has worsened significantly. He argued that even the President is aware that his administration has fallen short of expectations.

According to him, the level of violence across the country has intensified beyond initial projections, both in scale and impact on citizens. He noted that nearly three years into the administration, Nigeria is witnessing a pattern of insecurity that is more severe than ever before.

Baba-Ahmed recalled that Tinubu came into office with promises to tackle insecurity, improve living conditions, and create a safer and more prosperous nation. However, he insisted that those commitments have not been fulfilled.

He further criticised the timing of the President’s recent trip to the United Kingdom, describing it as inappropriate given the security situation at home. The visit, which included a large delegation of ministers and government officials, reportedly took place shortly after a deadly attack in Borno State.

Describing the contrast as troubling, Baba-Ahmed lamented that while Nigerians were grappling with tragic violence, the government appeared engaged in celebratory engagements abroad.
