The Benue State House of Assembly has reaffirmed its loyalty to Speaker Rt. Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh, passing a resounding vote of confidence in his leadership following reports of external moves to unseat him.
The resolution, which was taken during plenary on Tuesday, also extended the Assembly’s confidence to Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, signaling a united front between the legislature and the executive in the state.
Moving the motion, Hon. Douglas Akya, member representing Makurdi South State Constituency, lauded Governor Alia’s leadership style, particularly his respect for the rule of law and prompt response to legislative resolutions. He described the governor’s performance as an “uncommon commitment” to the welfare of Benue citizens.
Lawmakers, in their collective remarks, condemned what they termed “desperate attempts by non-state actors” to meddle in the Assembly’s affairs, alleging that some individuals were plotting to destabilize the state through calls for an unjustified impeachment.
“These efforts are aimed at destabilizing the peace and progress of this Assembly and our dear State,” part of the House resolution read.
The legislators praised Speaker Dajoh for steering the 10th Assembly with firmness and fairness, pledging their unwavering support for his continued leadership. They further cautioned against any attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of the Assembly, warning that such moves would not succeed.
With this resolution, the Assembly has effectively closed ranks around its Speaker and Governor, projecting a posture of unity in the face of what it described as external distractions.
