The lawmaker representing Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency in Benue State, Philip Agbese, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and defected to the Labour Party.
Agbese, who currently serves as the Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, made the announcement on Tuesday via a statement shared on his official Facebook page.
Explaining his decision, the lawmaker said he was “answering a higher call to serve my people with sincerity, humility, and commitment” under the platform of the Labour Party. He also revealed that he had been warmly received by fellow lawmakers within the party across the country.
Describing his new political home, Agbese noted that the Labour Party represents a united front, adding in a symbolic expression that it is a place “where Papa, Mama and Pikin dey house.”
He further expressed confidence in the party’s leadership, referencing the guidance of its National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, and describing the party as a gathering of committed patriots.
Acknowledging the responsibility ahead, Agbese stated that as one of the party’s highest-ranking office holders from Benue State, he is fully aware of the task of rebuilding and strengthening the party’s structure for future electoral success.
He emphasized that his membership in the Labour Party would be driven by inclusiveness, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to unity, stressing that both new and old members have critical roles to play in repositioning the party for victory.
