The Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi, has finally overcome its decade-long electricity challenges with the successful powering of a newly procured 33kV transformer on Friday, September 5, 2025.

The project, championed by the hospital’s management, is expected to provide uninterrupted power supply to the facility, putting an end to years of erratic electricity that had disrupted medical services and patient care.

Chief Medical Director, Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande, hailed the milestone as a major turning point in the hospital’s operations. He expressed appreciation to Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia for his intervention, describing the support as timely and essential in repositioning the state’s health sector.

“With this 33kV line now functional, every section of the hospital will enjoy steady power, ensuring that medical equipment operates optimally and patient care is no longer hampered by outages,” Dr. Hwande said.

He noted that the hospital, which recently received modern medical equipment, can now deliver quality services without delays or interruptions.

Reaffirming BSUTH’s commitment to excellence, the CMD pledged that the institution will continue to support government efforts in providing reliable healthcare for the people of Benue and beyond.
