The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has been thrown into mourning following the death of its pioneer Head of Civil Service, Mrs. Grace Adayilo.
Adayilo was reported to have passed away in the early hours of Monday, September 1, 2025. The sad news was confirmed by Anthony Odey, Special Assistant on Media to the Head of Service, in a brief text to our correspondent.
“Yes, please,” Odey wrote, without providing additional details about the circumstances of her passing.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had appointed Mrs. Adayilo as the first substantive Head of Civil Service for the FCT on October 6, 2024, a decision that took immediate effect.
Her appointment marked a historic milestone, as she became not only the first HoS but also the first woman to hold the position in the Federal Capital Territory.
Before her elevation, she had served as Permanent Secretary of the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, where she earned a reputation for dedication and professionalism.
As at press time, neither the Adayilo family nor the FCT Administration had released an official statement on her passing.
