Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has expressed profound appreciation to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for approving the establishment of two new Area Commands and upgrading five police stations to full Divisions in the state.
Governor Alia described the development as a strategic move that will significantly bolster the security architecture of the state, enhance rapid response to security threats, and address policing gaps, particularly in communities prone to attacks.
According to the Governor, the newly created Daudu and Naka Area Commands, alongside the upgraded police formations in Ayilamo, Yelwata, Jato-Aka, Okokolo, and Agan, reflect the Federal Government’s acknowledgment of Benue’s peculiar security challenges. He noted that these challenges include recurring armed herders’ attacks and persistent communal clashes that have threatened peace and stability in the state.
Governor Alia assured the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies of his administration’s maximum cooperation and support to ensure the success of the initiative. He emphasized that his government remains committed to safeguarding lives and property across Benue.
“Our administration will continue to partner with security agencies and provide all necessary assistance to secure every community in the state. Peace, security, and the protection of lives remain top priorities,” the Governor reiterated.
The press statement was issued on behalf of the Governor by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, mnipr.
