The Benue State Government has dismissed speculations linking Governor Hyacinth Alia to alleged moves to impeach the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh.
In a press statement issued Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, the Governor made it clear that he has no hand in the political developments within the Assembly and is not aware of any attempt to remove the Speaker.
“The Governor Hyacinth Alia, is not aware of, and has no involvement whatsoever in, any purported attempt to remove the Speaker or in any activities currently taking place in the Benue State House of Assembly,” the statement read.
Kula emphasized that Governor Alia holds the legislature in the highest regard and continues to respect the rule of law and the principle of separation of powers.
According to him, the Governor has always responded to communications and resolutions from the House, citing his recent swift implementation of critical Assembly resolutions as proof of his commitment.
The statement further stressed that the Governor maintains a cordial working relationship with the Dajoh-led Assembly and remains focused on collaborating with lawmakers to advance the development of Benue State.
“Governor Alia remains committed to supporting the legislature in carrying out its constitutional duties for the progress of the state,” Kula affirmed.
The clarification comes amid reports of internal tension in the Assembly, where moves by some lawmakers to alter the leadership had sparked political speculation across the state.
