The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced the commencement of the Nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which will run for over a year — from Monday, August 18, 2025, to Sunday, August 30, 2026 — across all states of the federation.

According to INEC, the exercise will provide eligible Nigerians who have not yet registered the opportunity to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of future elections. It will also enable those who have changed their residence, lost their PVCs, or wish to correct personal details to update their records.

The commission stated that online pre-registration will begin on August 18, 2025, via the dedicated portals cvr.inec.gov.ng or cvr.inecnigeria.org. Physical registration at State and Local Government INEC offices will commence a week later, on August 25, and will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Mondays to Fridays (excluding public holidays).

INEC urged citizens to take advantage of the online platform to reduce waiting time at registration centres, stressing that those who complete the online pre-registration must still visit a physical INEC office for biometric capture before the process can be finalised.

The electoral body also appealed to political parties, civil society organisations, the media, and other stakeholders to mobilise citizens for the exercise, emphasising that widespread participation is vital to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
