A Chief Magistrate Court in Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State has remanded a married woman, Mrs. Ramatu Abbas, at the Wukari Correctional Centre over allegations of a violent attack on a 17-year-old girl.
Mrs. Abbas is accused of assaulting the teenager, identified as Iwasen Terhemba, with a razor blade following accusations that the victim was having an affair with her husband. The alleged incident has sparked outrage and concern among residents of the community.
At the court sitting, the Chief Magistrate ordered that the suspect be kept in custody pending the conclusion of police investigations and subsequently adjourned the case to a later date.
Meanwhile, human rights groups have condemned the alleged attack and called on law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure justice for the minor. As of the time of filing this report, the police are yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
