Former Ondo State governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has strongly denied reports alleging that he has been appointed to head the Southwest consultation team for former President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

A national daily (not Naija News) had claimed that Mimiko was chosen for the role on the recommendation of former Osun State governor and current ADC National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola.

However, in a swift rebuttal issued on Monday, Mimiko’s media aide, Eniola Akinsola, dismissed the report as a piece of “mischievous fiction” crafted by individuals desperate for political relevance.

“The falsehood in the report is glaring from the onset. It’s nothing but a journalist’s flight of imagination, turning baseless gossip into news,” Akinsola stated.

He clarified that while Mimiko maintains deep respect for Jonathan, there has been no contact or discussion whatsoever about any campaign role, adding that his principal is not job-hunting and has chosen to maintain a low profile for now.

“Dr. Mimiko respects the former president, no doubt. But he has neither been approached nor appointed for any campaign — one that, at this point, exists only in the realm of speculation,” Akinsola added.

He further warned that as the 2027 elections draw near, false political narratives will likely increase, targeting respected figures who are deliberately staying off the political spotlight.

Meanwhile, speculation over Jonathan’s potential return to the presidential race has intensified since former Minister of Information and PDP stalwart, Professor Jerry Gana, boldly declared that Jonathan would fly the party’s flag in 2027.

“I can confirm that Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election under the PDP. Nigerians should prepare to vote him back into power,” Gana said during an event on September 29.

But the Presidency quickly countered the claim, describing it as “an absurd political fantasy.”

Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga warned Jonathan to be cautious of “PDP sugar-coated loyalists,” insisting that politicians like Gana merely seek to exploit his image for personal and ethnic gains, only to abandon him “midstream as they did in 2015.”
