Abuja, Nigeria — Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) is set to host the second edition of the Nigerian Satellite Week (NSATWK 2026) on March 30–31, 2026, in Abuja, as the country marks two decades of its foray into the space economy.

The event, now in its second year, has emerged as Nigeria’s leading platform for stakeholders in the satellite and digital infrastructure sectors. NSATWK 2026 is expected to attract a high-level audience, including cabinet ministers, defence officials, development finance institutions, satellite operators, and deep-technology startups from across Africa.

Organisers say the conference comes at a critical time for the global satellite industry, which is experiencing rapid transformation, with sovereign space capabilities increasingly tied to national economic competitiveness.

Since its establishment in 2006, NIGCOMSAT has evolved from a single-satellite operator into a multi-service provider offering connectivity, broadcasting, and broadband services across Nigeria and the African continent. Over the past two years, the company has recorded significant growth, including a doubling of revenue and the securing of a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) partnership with Eutelsat.

The agency has also strengthened international cooperation through a strategic partnership with the Kenya Space Agency, while its Managing Director, Jane Egerton-Idehen, currently serves as Vice Chair of the Global Satellite Operators Association (GSOA), positioning Nigeria within global satellite policy and governance discussions.

Speaking ahead of the event, Egerton-Idehen said the milestone reflects the long-term impact of Nigeria’s decision to invest in space infrastructure.
She noted that NSATWK 2026 would not only celebrate progress but also define the roadmap for the next phase of growth in the country’s space economy.

The two-day event will feature a range of activities, including a Startup Demo Day, which will showcase African deep-tech ventures in sectors such as agriculture, logistics, health, and connectivity. A Stakeholders Forum will also bring together policymakers and industry leaders to deliberate on regulatory, infrastructure, and investment frameworks needed to scale Nigeria’s satellite ecosystem.

A key highlight of the event will be the launch of Accelerator Cohort 3.0, NIGCOMSAT’s flagship programme aimed at supporting early-stage ventures in satellite applications and related technologies. The initiative builds on previous cohorts that have focused on areas such as precision agriculture, last-mile connectivity, and digital logistics.

Top government officials are expected to participate, including the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, who will outline the Federal Government’s strategy for leveraging space-based technology for economic transformation. The Chief of Defence Staff is also scheduled to deliver a keynote address, underscoring the growing importance of satellite capabilities in national security.

According to the organisers, NSATWK 2026 represents a convergence of Nigeria’s long-standing ambitions in space, recent commercial gains, and future strategic direction.

NIGCOMSAT, wholly owned by the Federal Government, continues to provide satellite-based telecommunications and broadband services to public and private sector clients across Nigeria and beyond.
