The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, on Wednesday paid a condolence visit to the family of late former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State.

Obi was seen signing the condolence register at Buhari’s private residence, offering his respects and sympathies to the grieving family a day after the former leader was buried.

The visit underscores the statesmanlike approach of the former Anambra governor, who described the late Buhari as a leader who left a distinct mark on Nigeria’s political history.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari passed away in the United Kingdom on Sunday, July 13, 2025. His body was flown back to Nigeria and buried on Tuesday in Daura, his hometown, according to Islamic rites.

The funeral prayer, led by Sheikh Salisu Rabiu, the Imam of the Central Mosque in Daura, was followed by a solemn military ceremony.

Buhari’s body was carried to the graveside by senior Army Generals and Service Chiefs, concluding with a 21-gun salute that echoed across the city — a final tribute to a man who once led Nigeria as both a military ruler and a democratically elected President.

Peter Obi’s visit is part of a wave of condolences from across Nigeria’s political spectrum, as the nation continues to mourn the passing of one of its most influential post-independence figures.
