The Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area following a deadly attack on Gari Ya Waye community in Angwan Rukuba.

Residents were thrown into panic on Sunday evening when suspected gunmen stormed the community at about 7:50 pm, opening fire on unsuspecting civilians.

The sound of gunshots forced many residents to flee for safety as the attackers unleashed violence on the area, leaving several people feared dead and many others injured.

Although the exact number of casualties remains unclear, sources within the community confirmed multiple fatalities and several victims with gunshot wounds.

In response to the incident, the state government announced the curfew in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Lohya Ramnap. The restriction took effect from midnight on March 29, 2026, and will remain in force until April 1, 2026.

The government described the attack as a tragic security breach and strongly condemned the violence.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s administration labeled the assault as barbaric and unprovoked, assuring residents that security agencies have been deployed to restore order and track down those responsible.

Authorities also urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperate with security operatives by providing useful information to aid ongoing investigations.
