The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old woman, Aisha Hashiru, for allegedly attempting to traffic three minors in Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Friday in Lafia. He said the suspect was apprehended on September 4 at about 5:45 p.m. by vigilant residents at Orange Market, Mararaba, while trying to abduct the children.
She narrowly escaped mob action before operatives of Mararaba ‘A’ Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, intervened.
The rescued victims were identified as Fatima Auwal, 4, Shafiyi Auwal, 5, and Amina Auwal, 6.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect sneaked into the residence of one Ramatu Auwal and abducted her three children. She confessed to luring them with biscuits,” Nansel disclosed.
Commissioner of Police, Shettima Mohammed, has ordered the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for further investigation.
He also directed intensified efforts to resolve other cases of missing children, reiterating the command’s commitment to tackling human trafficking in the state.
