The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has reiterated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is fully committed to reducing youth unemployment and improving the living conditions of Nigerians.
Akume gave the assurance in Abuja when he hosted the newly elected leadership of the Nigerian Youth Council (NYC), led by Comrade Jethro Annum.
He applauded the council’s show of solidarity with the government, explaining that the Tinubu administration has introduced practical policies and programs aimed at easing the hardship faced by citizens and opening up opportunities for young people.
“This is a government that places youths at the center of its plans. We will continue to stand by you, providing a befitting secretariat and necessary logistics to strengthen your efforts in mobilizing, sensitizing, and empowering Nigerian youths to benefit from our initiatives,” Akume said.
On behalf of the NYC, its Board Chairman, Dr. Yakubu Shendam, thanked the SGF for the warm reception and support. He assured that Nigerian youths would continue to back the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and work with government in the areas of peacebuilding, security, and development.
Shendam praised the introduction of the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and other youth-focused programs, describing them as crucial for lifting young Nigerians out of poverty. He further commended the Tinubu government for its investment in infrastructure, enhanced security, and economic growth.
“As young people, we are inspired by these achievements and are ready to work with government to drive national progress. The fact that our foreign reserves have risen to over $50 billion under this administration, despite the challenges inherited, is remarkable and worth celebrating,” he said.
He added that the visit was meant to secure the SGF’s guidance as a political leader, reaffirm the loyalty of Nigerian youths to the administration, and seek further collaboration to enable the NYC to fulfill its mandate of empowering the nation’s youth population.
