The Yilwatda family of Dungung in Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State has announced the forthcoming conferment of one of Tivland’s revered traditional titles—ZEGEBAR-U-TIV—on their distinguished son, His Excellency, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, and his wife, Her Excellency, Dr. Martina Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The prestigious honour will be conferred by His Royal Majesty, Orchivirigh Prof. James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, the Tor Tiv, alongside the Tiv Traditional Council. The recognition aims to celebrate the couple’s significant contributions to national unity, social cohesion, and grassroots development across the Middle Belt and Nigeria at large.
The ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, 13 December 2025, at the iconic J.S. Tarka Stadium in Gboko, Benue State—an important cultural venue known for hosting major traditional events in Tivland. A grand reception will follow immediately after the conferment.
For the people of Plateau and Benue States, the honour goes beyond cultural recognition. It symbolizes a deep bond between the Tiv nation and the people of Plateau, tied together by shared values, a rich history of friendship, and lasting sociocultural ties. Prof. Nentawe’s longstanding relationship with the Tiv people—along with his reputation as a bridge-builder, reform advocate, and promoter of peaceful coexistence—has strengthened his admiration across the region.
His wife, Dr. Martina Nentawe Yilwatda, is also being honoured for her impactful work in education, gender empowerment, and public health. Her humanitarian commitment and dedicated support to families and vulnerable groups have earned her respect across communities.
The Yilwatda family, traditional leaders, political associates, friends, and well-wishers from within and outside Nigeria are invited to celebrate this historic milestone. The event is expected to be a colourful and dignified display of Tiv tradition, unity, and appreciation for exemplary leadership.
