The Tor Tiv of Tiv worldwide and Chairman of the Benue State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Majesty, Orchivirigh Prof. James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, has called on traditional rulers across Nigeria to join forces in combating rising criminality in their domains.
Speaking during a three-day working visit to Zaria, His Majesty stressed that Nigeria is no longer what it used to be, as insecurity and violent crimes have increasingly threatened peace and stability. He warned that traditional institutions cannot afford to look away, since those responsible for such vices often fall within their influence and care.
In his response, the Emir of Zazzau commended the Tor Tiv for his wise counsel and pledged that traditional rulers would continue to play their role in ensuring security and harmony in their respective communities
The Tor Tiv was received by the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Nuhu Bamali, alongside a host of dignitaries, including Ambassador Prof. Steve Torkuma Ugba, President-General of Mdzough u Tiv worldwide, the Vice-Chancellors of Ahmadu Bello University and the University of Jos, as well as other eminent personalities.
The highlight of the visit was the commissioning of Royal Choice Inn, a project built by Chief Felix Tsedoo Akiga at the Samaru campus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
The occasion also coincided with the annual Tiv Day Celebration by the Community of Tiv Students (CTS) at ABU, which featured cultural performances, goodwill messages, awards, and gift presentations showcasing Tiv heritage.
