Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have recorded another success in the ongoing clearance mission tagged Operation Lafiya Nakowa in Taraba State, seizing weapons and other items from fleeing terrorists.
According to a statement by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, the operation was conducted on October 14, 2025, after credible intelligence revealed the presence of armed groups in Badekoshi, Fajul, Kurmi, and Dampar villages within Ibi Local Government Area.
The troops, stationed at Tapga Ngasawa village under Dampar District, swiftly moved into action, storming the suspected hideouts. A fierce exchange ensued at Badekoshi, forcing the terrorists to flee towards the Fajul forest axis.
“The gallant troops engaged the criminals with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their hideouts and retreat deeper into the forest,” the statement read in part.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine, a round of 7.62mm special ammunition, five blank rounds, two fragmental jackets, two camouflage uniforms, and a Jincheng motorcycle believed to have been stolen during an earlier attack in Tapga village.
The Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their bravery and professionalism, urging them to sustain the momentum until all criminal networks are dismantled in Taraba.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, vowing to maintain close coordination with other security agencies and local communities to ensure lasting peace in the region.
