LThe Benue State Chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has inaugurated its newly elected executives, with Comrade Julius Agbatar officially sworn in as the State Chairman.
The inauguration ceremony, held on Tuesday at the Drivers House, Yaikyo in Makurdi, was conducted by officials from the National Executive Council (NEC) of the union. Present at the event from the national body were Comrade Tukur Usman Bechi, National Coordinator, and Comrade Sunusi Tafimu, General Secretary, who anchored the event behalf of the union’s national leadership.
Governor Hyacinth Alia, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Deaconess Mrs Serrumun Aber, congratulated the new executives and urged them to embrace unity of purpose, discipline, and service to the union in the state. He emphasized the importance of the transport sector in enhancing the state’s economy and maintaining public order.
Delivering goodwill messages at the event were representatives of key transport and security agencies, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Police Force, Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), other Unions and the Permanent Secretary of the Benue State Ministry Power, Renewable Energy and Transport.
They commended the union for a peaceful and transparent leadership transition and pledged continued collaboration for safer and more efficient road transport operations.
In his acceptance speech following the oath of office, Comrade Julius Agbatar on behalf of the new exco expressed his gratitude to the Governor for creating an enabling environment and providing support to the union.
He pledged to uphold the constitution of the NURTW, unite its members across the state, and work toward the growth and development of the transport sector in Benue.
The inauguration marks a significant milestone for the NURTW in Benue State, as members and stakeholders alike look forward to a new era of cooperation, professionalism, and progress under the leadership of Comrade Agbatar.
