An Abuja-based entrepreneur, Bingel Bamba’am, has stirred widespread online debate after revealing that she was billed ₦50,000 for allegedly using her own television and other in-house services.
Bamba’am, who shared a photo of the letter on social media, described the charge as “the craziest thing ever,” questioning why she should be required to pay such a fee when she already covers her own electricity and satellite TV subscriptions.
Her post quickly went viral, drawing a flurry of reactions from Nigerians who expressed both shock and frustration. While many condemned the alleged levy as exploitative, others argued it reflected standard regulatory practices in some developed countries.
One user, Uncle Ebizi, criticized the development authorities, saying, “It’s really tough what AMAC and the FCTA are putting businesses through in Wuse 2. They don’t seem to encourage business growth at all.”
However, another user identified as Happy Dude defended the policy, noting, “This kind of regulation exists in developed countries, and that’s part of what makes their systems work.”
The incident has reignited conversations about the rising cost of doing business in the Federal Capital Territory and the impact of multiple levies on entrepreneurs.
