Mararaba, a bustling town in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, has been plunged into grief and anger following the alleged shooting of an innocent woman by a member of a local vigilante group.
The victim, a mother of eight and well-known figure in the community, was reportedly shot in broad daylight in the heart of Mararaba during what witnesses described as a dispute linked to a land matter.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the woman — who is also a wife and sister to residents in the area — was immediately rushed to the Medical Center in Mararaba for urgent treatment. However, to the shock of her family and sympathisers, the hospital’s management allegedly refused to admit her, citing undisclosed reasons.
She was later referred to the Keffi Medical Center, where she is currently battling for her life.
The incident has triggered widespread outrage among locals, who are demanding swift investigation and justice for the victim. Many have also called for stricter oversight of vigilante groups in the area, warning that such armed outfits could pose a danger if left unchecked.
At press time, authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the matter, while the alleged shooter’s whereabouts remain unknown.
