The youths of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have declared their readiness to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, warning the Presidency against any attempt to manipulate the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday under the umbrella of the African Democratic Youth Congress (ADYC), the party’s youth wing cautioned that the exit of the current INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, scheduled for December 2025, must not be turned into a political tool for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The group specifically reacted to speculations that Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, could be positioned to take over the electoral body. They vowed that such a move would not deter the opposition from mobilizing Nigerians to reclaim power at the ballot box.
“Politics is about numbers. They can bring as much money as they want, but we are going to beat them silly in 2027,” the ADYC leaders said.
Making reference to Onanuga’s earlier comments on political contests, they stated:
“We saw Onanuga asking, ‘how market?’ The waters have been tested. We have other elections coming up, and that is when they will truly know ‘how market’ is. It is going to be fire for fire.”
The ADC youths emphasized that the Nigerian people are increasingly aware and will resist any form of electoral manipulation. They assured that the opposition is determined to “match the APC in every measure and ensure the people’s will prevails.”
The statement adds to growing political debates over who will succeed Prof. Yakubu as INEC Chairman and how the choice could shape the credibility of the 2027 elections.
