A governorship aspirant in Benue State, Dr. Simon Ater, has expressed concern that the state is gradually losing relevance in Nigeria due to poor governance and insecurity.
Speaking in Abuja during an interview with Daily Asset, Dr. Ater lamented that Benue is not making progress in any area of development.
“I must state clearly that our state is not doing well, whether in terms of good governance or development,” he said.
He accused the present administration of failing to protect the lives and property of citizens, noting that herdsmen have taken over farmlands and homes while little effort is being made to address the crisis.
According to him, if elected as governor, he would make security a priority and transform the state within a short time.
“The present administration in Benue State has nothing to offer as a viable solution to the protection of lives and property. This was their fundamental oath of office. Today, the death rate is rising and the people are suffering,” he added.
Dr. Ater, however, urged the people of Benue to remain focused and steadfast, assuring them that “there will be light at the end of the tunnel” when he emerges governor.
