A coalition of opposition politicians has called on prominent figures across different parties — Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Senator Aminu Tambuwal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) — to resign from their platforms and formally align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The appeal was made during a high-level meeting of the coalition caucus held in Abuja yesterday. According to the caucus, full commitment to the ADC is crucial for consolidating opposition strength ahead of future political battles.
Speaking after the meeting, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi confirmed that the coalition had ended all ties with the Allied Democratic Association (ADA).
“The Coalition has rested everything concerning the ADA. That means they are not interested in the registration or otherwise of the association,” Abdullahi stated.
The latest move signals an attempt by opposition forces to unite under a single political platform, with expectations that Obi, El-Rufai, and Tambuwal’s defection could reshape the balance of power in Nigeria’s political landscape.
