A former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has predicted a crushing defeat for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, regardless of any political appointments or strategic alignments the party makes.

Dalung made the bold assertion in an interview with News Central in Jos, Plateau State, which was monitored by SaharaReporters.

He said that no amount of manipulation or influence — including hypothetical appointments of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s family members to critical national positions — would prevent what he described as the inevitable fall of the APC.

“I promise President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, even if 36 state governors defect to APC and he appoints Seyi Tinubu as the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and appoints his wife the Chief Justice of Nigeria, APC will still be defeated in 2027,” Dalung said.

The former minister attributed his prediction to growing public dissatisfaction with the Tinubu-led administration, accusing it of failing the Nigerian people.

He argued that the government has “weaponised poverty, hunger, and hardship,” and promoted corruption and injustice, thereby alienating itself from the masses.

“Nigerians should buckle up for 2027 because the battle line has been drawn by the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which has declared war against the Nigerian people,” Dalung continued.

“The only option we have now is to align with the coalition movement to reposition ourselves and confront this government.”

Dalung, who has since defected from the APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), said he became disillusioned with the party after a meeting with President Tinubu where he felt the president lacked clarity and understanding on pressing national matters.

He further described the APC as a “conclave of sinners” — a party filled with opportunists seeking protection from accountability.

According to him, the recent wave of defections into the APC from other parties would eventually destabilize it, as those joining are driven by personal ambition rather than shared values.

  1. Dalung did not hold back in his criticism of the current system, labelling it a “kakistocracy” — a government run by the least qualified and most self-interested individuals — which prioritizes the elite over the general population.

With his comments, Dalung becomes one of the most outspoken former APC members to openly challenge the party’s future prospects ahead of the 2027 elections.
