MAKURDI – Chief Bemgba Iortyom, Media Consultant to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election under the party’s platform.
As part of his consultations, Iortyom paid a courtesy visit to former Governor Samuel Ortom, who offered him his support and blessings.
The aspirant highlighted his long-standing loyalty to the PDP, noting that he has remained with the party since its formation in 1998. He cited his service record, including eight years as Benue State Publicity Secretary and his role as National Chairman of the PDP Forum of State Publicity Secretaries, alongside several national assignments. He currently serves as Consultant on Media and Public Communications to the party’s Benue chapter.
Iortyom argued that his deep-rooted connections within the party structure position him as a strong contender capable of mobilising widespread grassroots support ahead of the polls.
He also pointed to his involvement in community development initiatives across the state, stressing his experience in attracting development projects and mobilising rural populations for collective progress.
On security, he reaffirmed support for the state’s Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law of 2017, describing it as a key solution to the herdsmen crisis. He pledged to revive its enforcement in a manner that promotes peaceful coexistence between farmers and pastoralists.
Beyond security, Iortyom promised to tackle economic challenges by curbing capital flight and restoring the state’s economic and cultural stability. He also emphasised the need to rebuild social values, urging greater civility and cooperation among citizens.
He criticised the current security situation, warning against what he described as growing lawlessness and division, and vowed not to cede any part of the state to criminal elements.
Iortyom holds a Law degree from Moses Adasu University and bears the traditional title of Vande-U-Mbaiwer in recognition of his contributions to community development. He is married with children.
