The Obidients Movement, a prominent pro-Peter Obi support group, has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to shelve his presidential ambition and throw his weight behind the former Anambra State Governor ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to INFORMATION NIGERIA, the appeal was made on Saturday during a mega rally held in Umuahia, Abia State, to celebrate Peter Obi’s 64th birthday.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Chibuzor Obiesili, urged Atiku to make a historic sacrifice by endorsing Obi as the presidential candidate under the emerging coalition of opposition forces.
He said Obi remains the most viable alternative with the credibility and national appeal required to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and address Nigeria’s growing challenges.
“We thank all those working to build a coalition to rescue Nigeria from the current administration,” Obiesili said.
“But we passionately appeal to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to consider stepping aside for Mr. Peter Obi. Atiku has done a lot for Nigeria, but his greatest legacy would be supporting Obi to clinch the coalition’s ticket and rescue the nation in 2027.”
He further noted that a Southern candidacy led by Obi would symbolize fairness and national balance, describing the Labour Party’s 2023 flagbearer as “the game changer Nigeria needs.”
The rally, which drew hundreds of Obi’s supporters, also praised ongoing efforts by opposition leaders to unite and prevent President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, with calls for unity, strategy, and selflessness taking center stage.
Obi, who came third in the 2023 presidential election, has remained a strong voice in national discourse and a symbol of hope for many of his youthful supporters across Nigeria.
