The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has signaled his willingness to contest again in the 2027 presidential election, declaring his readiness to serve only one term if elected.
Speaking during an interview in Abuja, Obi dismissed recent speculations about a possible joint ticket with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, asserting that such claims are false and without foundation.
Obi emphasized that his political ambition is driven by a desire to reset and stabilize Nigeria, not personal gain or power retention.
“If Nigerians give me the opportunity, I am prepared to lead for a single term, and in that period, my priority will be to reposition the country on the path of progress, equity, and national rebirth,” he said.
The former Anambra State governor outlined his vision for the nation, centered on economic reforms, institutional integrity, youth development, and national unity.
He reiterated the need for a leadership style that is transparent, accountable, and people-focused—stressing that Nigerians deserve a government that reflects their aspirations.
Obi’s comments come amid growing calls from his supporters and segments of the electorate urging him to remain active in national politics, particularly as the 2027 general election cycle approaches.
While he remains a prominent figure in the Labour Party and the wider Nigerian political landscape, Obi clarified that he has had no discussions or plans to merge platforms with any former presidential candidate, including Atiku.
“I have not had any alliance talks with Atiku or any other person regarding a joint ticket,” he stated clearly.
As Nigeria continues to face challenges ranging from insecurity to economic instability, Obi’s early hint at a possible comeback in 2027 is likely to ignite renewed political interest and strategic alignments in the coming months.
