Tension has gripped the Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State following a renewed attack on Monday morning that left two people with gunshot wounds.

According to community stakeholder, Mr. Paul Kikin, the victims were shot by yet-to-be-identified assailants in the early hours of the day, sparking outrage among residents.

In response to the incident, a group of mothers in the community took to the streets in protest, demanding immediate action from the authorities. Their demands include the redeployment of soldiers stationed in the area back to the barracks and the provision of a vehicle to transport them to Makurdi, the state capital, citing the government’s inability to guarantee their safety.

“We are tired of living in fear. If the government cannot protect us, then they should at least help us leave,” one of the protesting mothers lamented.

Residents are now calling for urgent intervention to prevent further attacks, while community leaders have appealed for prayers and support for the victims and their families.
