The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has clarified that the ongoing enforcement of the sachet alcohol ban is primarily aimed at safeguarding children and public health, not to punish manufacturers or vendors.
NAFDAC explained that sachet-packaged alcoholic beverages are easily accessible, affordable, and often consumed by underage individuals, raising serious concerns about early exposure to alcohol and its long-term health and social consequences. The agency noted that the packaging and street-level distribution of sachet alcohol make regulation difficult, increasing the risk of abuse among minors.
According to NAFDAC, the policy is part of broader efforts to promote responsible alcohol consumption and reduce alcohol-related harm in society. The agency stressed that it has continued to engage with manufacturers, distributors, and other stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition and encourage compliance with existing regulations.
NAFDAC also urged the public to support the initiative, emphasizing that protecting children and vulnerable groups remains a top priority of the government’s public health agenda.
