Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, famously known as Saudi Arabia’s “Sleeping Prince,” has passed away at the age of 36—two decades after slipping into a coma following a car accident in London.

The tragic news was confirmed by his father, Prince Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz, in a heartfelt message shared on X (formerly Twitter):

“With hearts believing in Allah’s will and decree, and with deep sorrow and sadness, we mourn our beloved son… may Allah have mercy on him.”

In 2005, while studying at a military college in the United Kingdom, Prince Al-Waleed suffered a severe brain hemorrhage due to the accident. He was later flown to King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, where he remained in a coma for 20 years, reliant on a ventilator and round-the-clock medical care.

Despite fleeting signs of movement over the years—moments that sparked hope among Saudis and supporters worldwide—he never regained full consciousness.

His condition became a symbol of perseverance and devotion, especially from his father, who steadfastly refused to withdraw life support despite numerous medical consultations.

The Prince’s story touched the hearts of many across the kingdom, with the public closely following his rare physical responses through occasional viral videos and updates.

His death marks the end of a long and emotional chapter for the royal family and many well-wishers around the world.
