The Super Falcons of Nigeria have returned home to a hero’s welcome following their historic triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, where they secured their 10th continental crown.
Touching down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at about 2:26 p.m. on Monday, the team arrived aboard a chartered flight amid cheers from waiting fans, officials, and journalists.
The moment of arrival was marked by jubilation and pride as Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, emerged from the aircraft holding the WAFCON trophy aloft, symbolising the team’s dominance in African women’s football. Her gesture drew loud applause and chants of celebration from the crowd.
The squad’s return follows an impressive campaign in Morocco, where they defeated Morocco 3-2 in the final to claim their record-extending 10th WAFCON title. The victory reaffirmed Nigeria’s status as the most successful team in the tournament’s history.
Officials from the Federal Ministry of Sports, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and other dignitaries were on ground to receive the champions, with celebrations expected to continue in the capital and across the country.
More updates, including details of a likely presidential reception and victory parade, are expected soon.
