Former Benue State Governor, Senator Gabriel Suswam, has told the Federal High Court in Abuja that he never stole public funds during his 2007–2015 tenure.

Testifying in his defence in the N3.1 billion money laundering case, Suswam said his income came from rice farming, milling, and cattle rearing, not government money. He noted that his salary as governor was only about N700,000 monthly.

He denied receiving any proceeds from the sale of Benue State’s shares in the Benue Cement Company or directing bureau de change operator Abubakar Umar to handle funds on his behalf.

Justice Peter Lifu adjourned the case to November 5 and 12 for further hearing.
