There is growing tension in Tse-Anundu, a village in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, after a deadly late-night attack by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen on Friday.
According to local sources, the assailants invaded the community under the cover of darkness, killing one person on the spot and abducting a woman. The identity of the deceased is yet to be officially confirmed, while the whereabouts of the abducted woman remain unknown.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos and fear as residents ran for their lives, with many abandoning their homes overnight in fear of further attacks.
“People were screaming and running. It was terrifying. Some are still missing,” said one villager who narrowly escaped.
The community has since been thrown into mourning, with local leaders expressing deep concern over the continued security challenges in the area.
They have renewed calls for urgent government intervention and the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to forestall further violence.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the Benue State Government or the Nigeria Police Force regarding the incident.
The attack adds to a growing list of violent incidents in Guma LGA, a region that has remained vulnerable to clashes between herders and farming communities.
