The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the long-awaited reconstruction of the Katsina-Ala road, which has remained impassable for many years.

Umahi made the disclosure on Wednesday during a press briefing at the Ministry’s Headquarters, Mabushi, Abuja, while responding to questions on the deplorable state of the road that had defied attention from successive administrations.

“On Katsina-Ala road, we just got approval from Mr. President on Tuesday to re-scope the project, review the project, and have it completely executed,” Umahi said.

“I was a very happy person because that has been giving us a lot of concern. And we will try with the little resources to do palliative on that project.”

Highlighting the scale of ongoing federal investments in Benue State, the minister revealed that nearly $1 billion is being spent on the 260-kilometre stretch from Makurdi to 9th Mile.

ConfirmNews gathered that the procurement process for the second section of the legacy project, extending from the Benue–Ebonyi border, will commence this month.

Umahi also disclosed plans for a 1.35-kilometre bridge linking Benue and Kogi States, which will form part of the next project section.

“I think the President loves Benue people. Let there be peace in Benue so that we can do more,” Umahi concluded.
