President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have both lauded Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their historic qualification for the final of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament.
D’Tigress, who defeated Senegal in a thrilling semifinal clash, are now on the brink of clinching their fifth consecutive AfroBasket title — a feat unmatched in the tournament’s modern history.
In a statement released by the Presidency, President Tinubu commended the team for their resilience, teamwork, and national pride, noting that their journey to the final is a testament to the “indomitable Nigerian spirit.”
“Your dedication and tenacity continue to inspire the nation. As you fight for the title, know that 200 million Nigerians are behind you,” Tinubu stated.
Also reacting, Atiku Abubakar hailed the team’s performance as “nothing short of phenomenal,” adding that D’Tigress have consistently elevated the country’s reputation in global sports.
“With every tournament, these remarkable women prove that Nigeria’s greatness lies in the talent and determination of its people,” Atiku posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
The D’Tigress will face off against the winner of the other semifinal match in what promises to be a nail-biting finale as they aim for a record-extending title victory.
