The Tor Tiv, Orcivirigh Prof. James Ayatse, has charged members of the 10th Benue State House of Assembly to uphold integrity and resist any temptation that could compromise their legislative duties.
Speaking at his palace in Gboko during a courtesy visit by the lawmakers led by Speaker Hon. Alfred Emberga, the Paramount Ruler emphasized that the Assembly must remain focused on enacting laws that promote peace, unity, and sustainable development for the people of Benue State.
In a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and ICT, Freddie Adamgbe, the Tor Tiv urged the legislators to maintain close contact with their constituents and ensure that their decisions reflect the will and aspirations of the people.
He commended the resilience of the Assembly members in navigating the challenges of insecurity in the state and assured them of the continued support of the Benue State Council of Traditional Rulers. According to him, traditional leaders will always provide wise counsel on matters affecting the welfare of the people.
“As your fathers and custodians of culture and tradition, we are committed to guiding you whenever necessary. Feel free to consult us on issues requiring clarification,” the Tor Tiv said.
He further encouraged the lawmakers to strengthen collaboration with the Executive and Judiciary arms of government to accelerate development, particularly in the education sector, by promoting the teaching of science and technology across schools in the state.
Earlier, Speaker Emberga introduced the new Assembly leadership to the Tor Tiv, explaining that they came not only to seek his royal blessings but also to benefit from his wealth of wisdom. He noted that as young representatives, they lack extensive experience and would rely on the guidance of the Paramount Ruler to legislate effectively in the interest of Benue citizens.
