Tottenham Hotspur have sacked women’s team head coach Robert Vilahamn, just one day after dismissing men’s team manager Ange Postecoglou.
The decision, reported by The Athletic’s David Ornstein and Jay Harris, comes after a dismal 2024-25 Women’s Super League (WSL) campaign that saw Spurs finish second-from-bottom, narrowly avoiding relegation with 20 points, 10 above relegated Crystal Palace.
Vilahamn, 42, joined Spurs in July 2023 from BK Häcken and enjoyed a promising debut season, guiding the team to a sixth-place WSL finish and their first-ever FA Cup final, where they lost 4-0 to Manchester United.
His attacking style, likened to Postecoglou’s, earned him a three-year contract extension until 2027. However, the 2024-25 season unraveled, with a 10-game winless run from January, including a 5-0 thrashing by Arsenal, and only one win in their opening five matches.
Spurs’ defense was porous, conceding more goals than all but Crystal Palace.
The departure of key players like Grace Clinton, who returned to Manchester United, and Celin Bizet, who joined them permanently, weakened the squad.
Despite summer signings like Australian stars Hayley Raso and Clare Hunt, and Spaniard Maite Oroz, Spurs regressed, failing to build on Vilahamn’s initial success.
Tottenham’s board, led by chairman Daniel Levy, concluded that a change was necessary to realign the women’s team with the club’s “one club” philosophy.
The search for a new head coach is underway, with the club aiming to appoint a replacement before the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers next season. Vilahamn’s sacking marks a reset for Spurs Women as they look to avoid another relegation battle and restore their upward trajectory.
