Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested a wanted kidnap suspect during an operation in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, marking another major breakthrough under Operation Zafin Wuta.
The arrest was made on 22 November 2025 following credible intelligence that led troops to Jandei-Kulamu in Wukari, where they apprehended the suspect, Mr. Umar Musa Geyi. According to the Army, Geyi has long been on the radar of security agencies and is believed to be a major member of a kidnapping syndicate responsible for several abductions in the area.
Preliminary findings link the suspect to the kidnapping of Alhaji Jano, a Fulani resident of the Jandei-Kulala area, who was abducted on 13 November and remains in captivity. Troops intercepted Geyi while he was reportedly on a phone call confirming that the victim was still being held and demanding a ransom of ₦20 million for his release.
The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation as security operatives work to locate the victim and secure his safe rescue.
Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their swift action and reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace across Taraba State. He appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to aid security operations.
