The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Aisha Garba, has reaffirmed the Commission’s determination to revamp Nigeria’s basic education sector through robust collaboration with stakeholders across the country.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ consultation meeting in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State, Dr. Garba said UBEC is working in close synergy with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places quality education at the center of national development.
The consultation attracted a large turnout of royal fathers, clergymen, community leaders, and residents, who described the event as both historic and a heroic welcome for Senator Akume. Dr. Garba praised the SGF as “a friend of the nation” and a tireless advocate for educational advancement in Nigeria.
“As part of our mandate, UBEC will intervene in the refurbishment of schools and the provision of ICT equipment in Benue and other states across Nigeria, working through the State Universal Basic Education Boards,” she said.
She explained that these interventions are targeted at improving teaching and learning outcomes, bridging infrastructure gaps, and ensuring that every Nigerian child has equal access to quality basic education.
Dr. Garba was accompanied on the visit by UBEC’s Deputy Executive Secretary (Technical), the Director of Planning and Policy, and her Special Adviser.
The visit underscores UBEC’s renewed drive to strengthen partnerships with traditional institutions, community leaders, and government officials in achieving its mission of transforming the basic education system nationwide.
