Hon. Terseer Ugbor, representing Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has formally withdrawn his ₦1 billion defamation case against the Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, along with two of his media aides.
The suit, filed in October 2024 with reference number MHC/422/24, had listed the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Tersoo Kula, and the Principal Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Mr. Isaac Uzaan, as co-defendants.
In a statement, Ugbor revealed that his decision to discontinue the case was driven by a desire to prevent distractions and concentrate fully on his legislative responsibilities. He explained that, even though the defendants had not entered a formal defense—which could have led to a default judgment in his favor—he chose to heed the advice of family, political associates, and constituents who appealed for an amicable resolution.
“This decision is taken in the spirit of peace and progress,” Ugbor said. “My focus remains on representing the good people of Kwande/Ushongo effectively and ensuring they enjoy the true dividends of democracy.”
The lawmaker stressed that the withdrawal was made voluntarily and not due to any political pressure. He also reaffirmed his respect and loyalty to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, whom he described as his mentor and father figure.
Ugbor further assured his constituents of continued support, highlighting his recent interventions through relief materials and empowerment initiatives for victims of crises in parts of Kwande Local Government Area.
