The Minister of Works and Professor of Engineering Practice, Dave Umahi, has hit back at Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, following recent comments credited to the governor.

Umahi, speaking in reaction to Makinde’s remarks, said he would not trade words with the governor but insisted that Makinde lacked the technical understanding of road construction.

“I don’t want to exchange words with Governor Seyi Makinde,” Umahi stated. “But I believe he’s an engineer—or rather, an electrician, sorry, they call it ‘elect elect.’ He knows nothing about road construction.”

The former Ebonyi State governor asserted his seniority in both governance and engineering, adding that Makinde should seek clarification from him instead of making unfounded claims.

“I’m his senior both in governance and in engineering practice,” Umahi continued. “If there’s anything he doesn’t understand, he should call me and ask. He should also withdraw his statement that I’m ‘dancing around’ because I never did. But if he insists, he should come for a debate.”

The remarks follow a growing disagreement between the two leaders over the quality and management of federal road projects in Oyo State, with both sides defending their positions on infrastructural standards and professional expertise.
