Communities in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State were thrown into chaos on Thursday after suspected Fulani herdsmen launched two coordinated attacks that claimed lives and destroyed properties.
The first incident occurred in the afternoon at Tse Shimanor, followed by another deadly strike later that night at Tse Sabe, both located in the Mbatyula area of Peva, Chanchanji district. While two deaths have been officially confirmed in Tse Sabe, residents fear the number of casualties may be higher.
Survivors recounted how houses and farmlands were set ablaze, forcing villagers to abandon their homes in panic. A vehicle left behind by fleeing residents in Tse Shimanor was reportedly found completely burnt. Soldiers assigned to escort locals attempting to recover the vehicle verified the destruction.
According to community members, the attacks have displaced several families, leaving many unaccounted for as the search for missing residents continues. Security operatives are still assessing the scale of the damage and casualties.
Authorities are yet to release an official report on the incidents, but local leaders are urging immediate government intervention to halt the violence and restore calm to the troubled communities.
