President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be in Plateau State today, Saturday, October 4, to take part in the funeral prayers for the late Mama Lydia Yilwatda, mother of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Professor Nantewe Yilwatda.
The matriarch, also known as Nana Yilwatda Goshwe, passed away on August 17 at the University of Jos Teaching Hospital at the age of 83.
According to a statement released on Friday by Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the President will also meet with Christian leaders from the northern region during his visit. The engagement is scheduled to hold at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) headquarters in Jos.
Tinubu is expected to use the meeting to reassure the Christian community of his administration’s commitment to religious harmony and national unity.
He will also respond to recent claims by some United States lawmakers alleging persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
The President had earlier dismissed such claims during a visit to Imo State last Tuesday, describing them as “unfounded and misleading.” He emphasized that Nigeria remains a nation where different faiths coexist peacefully.
“In our country, no faith is under siege, no community is excluded. Churches, mosques, and traditional shrines stand side by side—not as rivals, but as enduring symbols of unity,” Tinubu said at the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu Convention Centre in Owerri.
After concluding the engagements in Jos, the President will return to Lagos later today.
