Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has stated that fairness demands the South be allowed to complete its eight-year presidential tenure.

Speaking on Thursday during an appearance on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, Saraki emphasized his support for zoning the presidency to the South ahead of the 2027 elections.

The former Kwara State governor also made it clear that he will not be contesting for the presidency in 2027, aligning his decision with the position he advocated within his party.

According to him, he had consistently supported the idea that the Peoples Democratic Party should zone its presidential ticket to the South in 2027. He noted that during internal party deliberations last year, he was among those who pushed for the decision, stressing the need to respect zoning arrangements.

Saraki recalled that in 2023, the party allowed candidates to emerge from any region. However, discussions ahead of the next election cycle led to a consensus that the presidency should return to the South.

He added that in keeping with that decision and for the sake of party unity, he has ruled out any personal ambition to run for president in 2027.
