The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has approved a comprehensive schedule for its nationwide congresses, set to commence with polling unit and ward congresses on April 7.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing journalists after the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja. He described the meeting as brief but highly productive, with full attendance of NEC members.
According to Abdullahi, the NEC also ratified key reports submitted to the National Working Committee (NWC), including those from the Policy and Manifesto Committee and the Constitutional Review Committee. He noted that these reports would be presented at the party’s National Convention scheduled for April 14 in Abuja, where they are expected to shape the ADC’s policy direction and constitutional framework moving forward.
He further outlined the timetable for the congresses, stating that local government congresses would be held on April 9, followed by state congresses on April 11, ahead of the national convention.
Abdullahi added that guidelines for the congresses had already been released, while nomination forms had been distributed nationwide to encourage inclusiveness and broad participation. He assured party members that the process would be transparent, open, and accessible to all qualified aspirants.
He also revealed that representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were present at the NEC meeting, providing oversight and enhancing the credibility of the proceedings.
Clarifying the nature of the upcoming convention, Abdullahi stated that it would not be elective but would focus on ratifying decisions previously taken by the NEC and NWC. He explained that elections of party officers would instead be conducted during the congresses at various levels.
He also confirmed that a convention committee had been set up, with further details to be announced by the party’s National Organising Secretary.
In his opening remarks, ADC National Chairman, David Mark, welcomed members to the party’s second NEC meeting and stressed the need for unity and collective leadership.
Mark described the gathering as both an honour and a responsibility, commending members for their commitment to strengthening the party. He urged them to prioritise discipline, cohesion, and democratic values, while calling for stronger grassroots engagement to expand the party’s national reach.
“Our task is clear: to reposition the ADC as a formidable platform for national renewal and inclusive governance,” he said.
He also praised state chairmen for embracing dialogue in resolving challenges, emphasising that collective effort remains key to addressing Nigeria’s current issues.
