Two Countries Qualify for 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32
The United States has joined Mexico in securing a place in the Round of 32 of the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup following a 2-0 victory over Australia in their Group D clash on Friday.
The Americans booked their spot in the knockout stage thanks to an own goal by Australia’s Cameron Burgess and a second-half strike from Alex Freeman at Seattle Stadium.
With the win, the USA now sits atop Group D with six points from two matches, making qualification certain ahead of their final group game against Turkey next Friday.
The United States becomes the second nation to reach the Round of 32, following fellow World Cup co-host Mexico.
Mexico had earlier secured qualification after edging South Korea 1-0 in a tightly contested encounter on Friday. The victory guaranteed El Tri a place in the next round with a game to spare.
Both countries have enjoyed impressive starts to the tournament and will now aim to finish at the top of their respective groups as the race for World Cup glory continues.
